Looking at this from an Internet attorney’s perspective, Google seems hell bent on destroying copyright law as we know it. Between the archiving of books online and YouTube videos, Google is taking the approach of infringe and defend if caught.
A court just found that Google violated Belgian copyright law by posting excerpts of news stories from that country’s newspapers. Expect to see a lot more of these cases in the coming years.
Google is taking the calculated risk that it has the financial staying power to outlast numerous smaller opponents. So far, that bet has paid off. If you think Google has infringed upon your copyright, talk with your Internet attorney about it and the possible remedies.
