State Tries To Regulate Social Networking Sites
If you’re marketing on MySpace.com or other social networking sites, or even running such a site, note that Connecticut lawmakers are trying to pass a bill that requires age verification and parental consent to protect minors.
There’s also a bill before Congress that proposes the creation of a separate office within the FTC to deal with Internet pedophiles.
The goal of protecting children from online predators is laudable. In fact, I just agreed today to do some legal work for a related project.
However, tech inept politicians rarely legislate anything that it logistically feasible.
Pay close attention to these legislative efforts and comply with them. The penalties for violating such will be draconian in the interests of “protecting the children.”
