If your business website doesn’t have a privacy policy, where have you been living the past 20 years? In a cave?
Even if you do have a privacy policy, it’s probably not protecting your business as well as it could be.
Why?
Four states have new data privacy laws going into effect this year (2023).
Now your business doesn’t need to be based in any of those states for the new laws to cause problems.
Here’s why…
These data privacy laws are designed to protect website visitors who are residents of those states no matter where your business is located.
And those visitors don’t even have to be your customers. If they visited your website and you collected any information (e.g., email address, IP address, etc.), then data privacy becomes an issue.
So, the website privacy policy that may have protected you in 2022 doesn’t cover these four new laws.
What happens if you stick your head in the sand and ignore these laws? Maybe you’ll get lucky. Or you get sued. Or a government investigation causes you to spend a fortune defending yourself.
